Lefroy drilling to evaluate and extend Burns copper-gold targets

Lefroy has launched a drill program at its Burns copper-gold prospect near Kalgoorlie to evaluate extensions to the Western Basalt zone and the Eastern Porphyry (reports Stockhead).

The 12-hole reverse circulation program totalling 3,000m will evaluate multiple targets generated from modelling the results of earlier drilling and the ongoing diamond drilling at the Eastern Porphyry.

Lefroy Exploration (ASX:LEX) says the program will take about two week to complete with results expected in late September.

“We are very pleased to be expanding our drilling program at Burns to evaluate and extend multiple copper-gold targets and broaden the extent of the system which we are yet to define limits to,” managing director Wade Johnson said.

“The commencement of the step out RC drilling will test extensions to both the Western Basalt and the Eastern Porphyry zones and provide additional foundation geochemical data to support advancing the geological model to this intriguing copper-gold system and expanding the extents of the mineralisation.

“The new data will also provide baseline information that will contribute to fast tracking exploration along this developing north trending corridor including out onto Lake Randall.”

Additionally, the company has completed three diamond holes on the 40N section at the Eastern Porphyry and is currently drilling the final hole in the program on the 40S section.

Results from these four holes are estimated to be reported over the next two months.

The Burns prospect is situated on the eastern margin of a large interpreted felsic intrusion within the Eastern Lefroy tenement package that is part of the wholly-owned greater Lefroy gold project about 50km southeast of Kalgoorlie.

Early geological observations indicate Burns is an intrusion related system that does not outcrop and is represented by a distinctive annular aeromagnetic and gravity geophysical signature.

Maiden RC drilling completed earlier this year returned a top interval of 38m grading 7.63 grams per tonne gold and 0.56% copper from 134m.

Broad high-grade gold mineralisation is hosted within the Eastern Porphyry, a newly discovered hematite-pyrite-chalcopyrite-magnetite altered diorite porphyry that is open to the north and south.

Diamond drilling on the zero north (baseline) and 40N sections has defined the eastern extent of the Eastern Porphyry marked by foliated basalt that may indicate a major structure. The alteration and mineralisation are open at depth.
